From U.G. Collection and thanx to Edulms

Altro buon gruppo argentino (terra evidentemente fertile di idee) questi El Reloj riuscirono ad incidere il loro primo album (questo) nel 1975. Musicalmente parlando, si rifanno al prog nostrano di quegl'anni: Osanna e PFM in primis, forse anche perché i 3/5 del gruppo sono italo-argentini; ma hanno anche riferimenti all' hard rock d'oltremanica coevo: Deep Purple. La formazione riesce a mantenere una buona originalità, aiutati in questo dall'uso dello spagnolo. La band era formata da: Juan Esposito / Drums, vocals and Tumabadoras en 3; - Osvaldo Zabala / Guitar;- Willy Gardi / Guitar, Vocals; - Luis Alberto Valenti / Keyboards and Vocals; - Eduardo Frezza / Bass, Lead Vocals. Molto bravi.

Sometimes I like to see over musical proposals of the other different countries which aren't the usual ones coming from USA, Great Britain and Germany. So today I present this October Equus coming from Spain and playing a good RIO/Avant prog with strong King Crimson's influences. Electric Sandwich

Electric Sandwich were formed in late 1969 by a group of German students from Bonn (Germany), but only in 1973 a their album issued (it was the only one) with the same name of the group. The music contains typical spaced out, freak 'n roll improvisations with many jazzy rock ingredients, folkish accents and Mellotron excursions. Its line-up is: Jörg Ohlert / guitar, organ, keyboards; Klaus Lormann / bass; Jochen Carthaus / sax, Harmonica; Wolf Fabian / drum.

Yatha Sidhra

Robin Hood from zerodimension crew

The brothers Rolf and Klaus Fichter found in 1973 their own musical identity with the band Yatha Sidhra; a musical name which is really suitable for the new musical orientation taken by the two musicians. Particularly attentive to ethnic and meditative influences in popular music, they began to work on a long & epic piece called “A Meditation Mass” (under the influence of the famous Achim Reichel, the virtual member of the band who produces the album in 1974). The first intention was to create a dreamy musical landscape where the Moog synth, the flute & traditional "percussive" instruments play an important part. Seen as a concept album, “A Meditation Mass” is almost exclusively instrumental. A long suite divided in two themes with two variations for each one. A beautiful and ecstatic musical journey. Their sound oscillates between "pastoral" folk music, spacey rock with the addition of discreet jazzy accents. (As I read on prog archives.com) and their music remebers to me Popol Vuh's works. The album line-up is: Rolf Fichter / moog synth, Indian flute, vibes, electric piano, electric guitar, vocals; - Klaus Fichter / drums, percussion; - Matthias Nicolai / electric 12-string guitar, bass; - Peter Elbracht / flute.

Equilibrio Vital

Formazione nata sul finire degli anni '70 e proveniente da Maracay (Venezuela), questi Equilibrio Vital registrarono il primo album (qui in versione CD con bonus tracks) agli inizi degli anni '80 e lo intitolarono con lo stesso nome del complesso, uscito nel 1983 vede come musicisti: Marcos Chacón / lead guitar, vocals; - Guillermo González / bass guitar, flute, vocals; - Carlos Serga / rhythmic guitar, backing vocals; - Laureano Rangel / drums; - Arnoldo Serga / bass guitar, percussion; - Elena Prieto / vocals, backing vocals; il tutto vivaddio cantato nella loro lingua. Se vogliamo poi fare dei parallelismi con altri gruppi, forse è meglio spostarsi in Italia ed andare con la mente a certe sonorità proprie degli Osanna e New Trolls.

Galahad

Ci sono almeno due formazioni con il nome di Galahad; una proveniente dalla Germania che suona un discreto prog folk ed una di matrice Inglese (questi di oggi), attiva fin dal 1991 e che suona un buon ed originale "neo progressive". L'album postato oggi, grazie ad un lettore, si intitola Decade (1997) ed in realtà è un "best of" dei primi tre dischi del gruppo (maggiori informazioni al riguardo le potete trovare dentro il file). La formazione del complesso è: Stuart Nicholson / vocals; - Roy Keyworth / guitars; - Spencer Luckman / drums; - Karl Garrett / keyboards; - Mark Andrews / keyboards; - Neil Pepper / bass guitar; - Tim Ashton / bass guitar.

Tonton Macoute

They got their names from the Haitian dictator Papa Doc Duvallier's brutal presidential guard that was named Tonton Macoute. The band is a good English band which plays a good jazz-roch/fusion and recorded its unique album, self titled, in 1971 with influences of Traffic's music. Those musicians appear: Paul French / acoustic & electric pianos, organ, vibes, vocals; - Chris Gavin / bass, acoustic & electric guitars; - Dave Knowles / Alto & Tenor saxes, flute, clarinet, vocals; - Nigel Reveler / drums, percussion. Fra le nuove ed interessanti proposte provenienti dal Perù vanno annoverati questi Flor de Loto, band validissima che partendo e prendendo spunto da famosi gruppi storici come i Jethro Tull riesce ad elaborare un proprio sound con echi andini, non dimenticando di inserire interessanti passaggi jazzati e di hard prog. Il primo disco inciso porta lo stesso nome del complesso ed è uscito nel 2005 con questa formazione: Alonso Herrera / electric and acoustic guitars; - Alejandro Jarrin / bass; - Jorge Puccini / drums, percussion; - Johnny Perez / flute, recorder, zampoña*, midi sequencer; come ospiti compaiono: Rafael Valderrama / flute, recorder; - Octavio Castillo / mandolin (4); - Lalo Williams / synthesizer (8).

Ogni tanto un tuffo in altri generi che esulano dal solito prog/jazz/rock penso possa far bene; così oggi grazie sempre al nostro collaboratore Edulms la ciurma di Zerodimension è lieta di presentare Luiz Melodia, artista brasiliano di Rio de Janeiro (al secolo Luiz Carlos dos Santos), che con il suo samba e le sue canzoni ci fa volare con la fantasia verso quel paese esotico e le sue splendide ragazze. Curly Curve

Their music can remember to us The Allman Brothers' sound but these Curly Curve aren't American or British bands, they were an hard blues band coming from Berlin (Germany) and singing in English language. The group was founded by Alex Conti (vocals) and Heiner Pudelko (later in Atlantis), the other artist were Hanno Bruhn, Kurt Herkenberg, Chris Klöber (later Kin Ping Meh), Hans Wallbaum; they recorded the unique LP in 1973 reissued in 1994 on CD with the same name of the band....download & enjoy....zero

Camel

Sgrombriamo subito il campo da dubbi. Questi Camel nulla hanno a che vedere con la famosa art rock/symphonic prog band inglese attiva dal 1973. Infatti i Camel postati oggi sono si inglesi ma arrivati in Italia (dove hanno inciso un solo LP e due 45 giri) sul finire degli anni '60; la loro proposta musicale è beat/rock, anzi tutta la loro produzione è composta di cover di brani di altri artisti degli anni '60, tra cui Beatles, Spirit, Who. La formazione era composta da Alex Jackson (voce, chitarra acustica, piano), Dave Summer (chitarra, voce), Martin Fisher (basso, tastiere) e Pete Huish (batteria) e tecnicamente non sono malaccio. L'unico loro album è questo Under Age uscito nel 1970 e qui riproposto perché oggi sono in "vena storica".

Gruppo proveniente dal Brasile (Rio Grande do Sul) attivo negli anni '80; i Raiz de Petra, buona band dal nome curioso, hanno alle spalle una buona discografia; il loro primo album è questo postato oggi, intitolato Trajetòria, databile 1985. I musicisti qui impegnati sono: Pedro Tagliani- chitarre e violino; Márcio Tubino- flauto e saxofoni; César Audi- batteria e percussioni.

Double Beat

Stefano Ghittoni e Marco Rigamonti sono i figuri che si nascondono dietro il logo Double Beat; il primo piu' conosciuto grazie al gia' vincente progetto dei Dining Rooms, e per i suoi Dj set ai Magazzini Generali a Milano dove incontra il secondo anche lui Dj nel noto locale milanese e questo "Something new" è la loro ultima fatica (la seconda?) nel tentativo di creare della danceable di qualita' che partendo da sonorita rubate al jazz andasse a pescare nell'afro music nel funk e nella house. Kraan

In Germany, in the early '70s there were not only good kraurock bands bur also pretty groups who played jazz-rock such as Embryo and these Kraan. All of them included in their own albums innovative jazz sounds and psychedelic, sometimes ethnic elements as well. At the beginning of their career, started in 1970, Kraan free form jazz rock was really into jam sessions, totally improvised, mainly instrumental (featuring sax sections and many guitar / bass solos). Their self title album (issued in 1972) was experimented with ethnic, psychedelic / acid tastes and discreet electronic manipulations. The band was: Jan Fride / drums; - Hellmut Hattler / bass; - Johannes Pappert / Alto saxophone; - Peter Wolbrandt / guitar, vocals.
